What this screen is for
A bill of materials records what goes into making a product: the raw materials required and the operations involved. This screen lists the bills you have defined, with summary counts above, and lets you search by product, filter by active or inactive status, and open or create one.
When to use it
Define a bill of materials before raising work orders for a product, because it is what tells the system what will be consumed. Come back when a recipe changes — a substituted material, a revised quantity, a different operation — and mark a bill inactive rather than deleting it when a product is no longer made that way.
What you see on this screen
Three cards: Total BOMs, Active BOMs and Default BOMs — the default being the bill used for a product when nothing else is chosen. The table carries:
- BOM Number — the bill's number
- Product — what this recipe makes
- Name — the name given to this version of the recipe
- Version — which revision it is, so an older recipe can be kept alongside a newer one
- Items — how many raw materials the recipe consumes
- Operations — how many steps the recipe involves
- Total Cost — what the materials and operations come to
- Selling Price — the price held against the product, which read beside the total cost is the margin
- Status — Active or Inactive, with a Default tag where this is the product's default bill
- Actions — view, edit, duplicate (useful for a new version) and delete
BOM Number, Name, Version, Total Cost and Selling Price can each be sorted on.
Filters and actions
Search by BOM number, name, product, or SKU narrows the list, and Show Filters opens Status with Reset. Chips give Default Only and Newest First / Oldest First, with Clear All. Create BOM defines a new recipe.
Status values
- Active — available to raise work orders against
- Inactive — kept as a record of how the product used to be made, but no longer offered
