What this screen is for
This is the form for adding to the library. Give the material a title and a short description, put it in a category, add tags, and choose its visibility. Then supply the content itself, either by uploading a file (PDF, document, presentation, video or image) or by giving an external URL such as a video link. Large videos are uploaded in pieces, with progress shown as it goes.
When to use it
Use it whenever a new document, video or resource should be available to learners, and before building a course that needs it, since course lessons point at materials that already exist.
What you see on this screen
Two cards, with a Back to Library link in the header.
Material Details:
- Title — required
- Description — optional, a brief line about the material
- Category — optional; leaving it alone files the item as uncategorised
- Visibility — a tick marked Public (visible to all students)
- Tags — optional; type a tag and add it, and remove one with the cross on its chip
Content offers two modes, chosen with the Upload File and External URL buttons.
In file mode you get a drop area that also takes a click to browse, accepting documents, presentations, video, images and audio. A large file is uploaded in pieces, and the page says so and asks you to keep the tab open until it finishes; progress runs from preparing, through a percentage, to finishing up, with a Cancel beside it.
In URL mode you get a single address field, with a note that a video platform link or any external resource URL will do.
Filters and actions
There are no filters on a form. Cancel abandons the upload, and Upload Material saves it. The category list is the one managed on the Categories screen, so create the category first if the one you want is missing.
