Frequently Asked Questions

QCan I change my GSTIN through amendment?

No. GSTIN is PAN-based and state-specific. It cannot be changed through amendment. If PAN changes (e.g., proprietorship to company), you must cancel existing registration and apply for new one.

QWhat if the officer rejects my amendment?

If the officer rejects the core field amendment, you receive REG-05 (rejection notice) with reasons. You can file a fresh amendment application after rectifying the issues, or appeal within 30 days.

QIs there a time limit for filing amendments?

Amendments should be filed within 15 days of the change occurring. While there's no strict penalty for late amendments, it's important to keep registration details current to avoid compliance issues.

QCan I amend registration retrospectively?

Yes, certain amendments like address change can be made with a past effective date. However, the effective date cannot be before the date of registration. Officer discretion applies for retrospective core field changes.

QHow many times can I amend my registration?

There's no limit on the number of amendments. You can amend as many times as needed. Each amendment is processed independently.
