What this screen is for
Categories classify the asset register. Each one carries a name, an icon chosen from a searchable set grouped by asset type, an optional description, and a depreciation rate. The rate is what makes a category more than a label: it is the basis on which assets in that category lose value over time.
Deleting a category does not delete its assets — they are simply left without a category and can be re-filed.
When to use it
Set categories up before adding assets, so each item is classified from the start, and revisit them when your depreciation policy changes.
What you see on this screen
Each category is a card carrying:
- Icon — the symbol chosen for it, or a folder where none is set.
- Category name.
- N assets — how many assets are filed under it.
- Description — where one has been written.
- Depreciation Rate — the percentage per year applied to assets in this category.
Filters and actions
Add Category opens the form; each card offers edit and delete; Back to Assets returns to the register.
The form takes a Name (required), an Icon picked from a searchable set grouped by type, such as computers and electronics, vehicles and transport, or furniture and office, an optional Description, and a Depreciation Rate (% per year), which starts at 10.
Deleting shows how many assets are in the category and warns that they will be left uncategorised — the assets themselves are not deleted, and can be re-filed afterwards.
