Price Groups

What this screen is for

Customer price tiers — wholesaler, retailer, dealer and the like. Each group has a basis and a value, which together form the rule used to work out a price whenever no specific price has been set for an item, and the list shows how many items have been given an explicit price of their own.

When to use it

Create a group when you charge a class of customer differently as a matter of policy, rather than discounting case by case. Customers are then assigned to a group, and the right price follows them onto the document without anyone having to remember it.

What you see on this screen

Three counters open the screen: Total, Active and Inactive.

The table:

• Name — the tier's name, with a Default badge on the one new customers fall into.
• Code — its short reference.
• Basis — how the rule works: see below.
• Value — the figure the basis uses — a percentage, an amount off, or a price.
• Priced Items — how many items have been given an explicit price of their own in this group, rather than falling back on the rule. A group with none is running entirely on its rule.
• Status — Active or Inactive.
• Actions — edit or delete.

The form takes the name, a code, a sort order, the basis and its value, and ticks for making the group the default and for keeping it active. A hint beneath the value field explains what the number will do.

Filters and actions

Add Price Group opens the form. Pricing Matrix, in the header, opens the grid where item-by-item prices are set for these groups.

Status values

The Basis decides how a price is worked out when no specific one has been set:

• % off base — a percentage taken off the item's base price. The usual choice for a trade tier.
• Amount off base — a fixed sum taken off the base price, whatever the item costs.
• Fixed price — the value is the price, ignoring the item's base price entirely.

Separately, Active or Inactive decides whether the group is in use at all. An inactive group keeps its prices but is not offered when assigning customers.
