What this screen is for
This is the screen the person at the counter keeps open. There is one box, and you do not have to say what you are typing: a registration, a name or a mobile number all work, and vehicles and customers are searched together. Spacing and hyphens in a registration are ignored.
Each vehicle card shows the registration, make, model and type, tyre size, the owner and their phone, how many visits it has had and when the last one was, lifetime value, any amount still due, and a flag if a warranty claim of theirs is open. Customer rows show how many vehicles and bills they have, lifetime value and amount due, with links to add a vehicle or open their purchase and service history.
When to use it
Use it the moment someone walks in. If nothing matches and what you typed looks like a registration, it offers to register that vehicle on the spot.
What you see on this screen
One search box, with a helper line beneath it explaining that spacing and hyphens in a registration do not matter, that a mobile number matches on the last seven digits or more, and that the search covers a customer's second number too. Results appear as you type, in two sections rather than a table.
Vehicles, with a count, as cards. Each carries the registration, the make and model, the vehicle type, the Tyre size, and the owner's name and phone. Down the right: how many visits the vehicle has had, when the last one was, its lifetime value, and, where money is outstanding, the amount due in red. An amber badge counts open warranty claims against it. An exact match is picked out with a highlighted border.
Customers, with a count, as rows. Each shows the name, the phone and any alternate number, the customer number, how many vehicles and bills they have, their lifetime value and the amount due. Two buttons sit alongside: one adds a vehicle for them, the other opens their purchase and service history.
Filters and actions
There are no filters, tabs or date ranges: the single box is the whole interface. It starts searching from the second character, and pressing Escape clears it.
Where nothing matches, the page says so and, if what you typed could be a registration, offers a Register button to create that vehicle straight away. Where the registration is not on file but the owner is, it offers to register it against them. Register Vehicle in the header does the same from a clean form.
Status values
There is no status column. Vehicle type is one of car, bike, lcv, truck, tractor, auto or other, shown as Car, Bike, LCV, Truck, Tractor, Auto and Other.
