What this screen is for
Where a course is set to require approval, finishing it does not by itself issue the certificate: the completion waits here for a decision. Each entry shows the learner, whether they are staff or a student, the course, and their exam result where the course has one. Approving it issues the certificate. Sending it back asks for a note saying what they need to do differently; the learner sees that note and the course shows as needing more work.
When to use it
Check it regularly, since a completion sitting here is a learner waiting. If nothing is listed, no completions are outstanding.
What you see on this screen
One card per waiting completion, rather than a table. Each card carries:
- the learner's name
- the course title
- the date they finished, and whether they are staff or a student
- their exam result: their best score as a percentage, the pass mark it is measured against, and how many attempts they made. Where the course has no exam, it says so instead
- a footnote naming the learner who will receive the certificate if you approve
A counter above the list reads how many are waiting. Where nothing is outstanding, the page reads Nothing waiting, and explains that completions appear once a learner has finished every required lesson and passed the exam.
Filters and actions
A Course filter narrows the queue to one course, with All courses as its default.
Two actions per card. Approve accepts the completion and issues the certificate where the course grants one. Send back opens a note box asking what the learner needs to do differently; the note is limited in length, the learner sees it, and the course returns to showing as needing more work.
Status values
A completion sitting on this screen is at awaiting_approval. Approving moves it to approved, and then issued once the certificate is generated. Sending it back moves it to rejected, which is not a dead end: the learner can carry on and submit again.
