What this screen is for
Two things are maintained here. The fuel surcharge is a percentage per carrier with a start date and an optional end date; carriers republish it constantly, so you add a new row when it changes rather than editing the old one, which keeps past shipments priced on the figure that applied at the time.
Surcharges are the other additions. Each has a code, the label that appears on the invoice, an optional carrier (or all of them), a basis and a value. Two switches decide how it behaves: whether the surcharge itself attracts the fuel percentage, and whether it applies to every shipment by default.
When to use it
Update the fuel percentage as soon as a carrier publishes a new one, and add a surcharge when a carrier introduces a new fee.
What you see on this screen
The fuel table lists Carrier, Percent and Period — the date the rate applies from, and either its end date or the word ongoing.
The surcharge table lists Code, Label as it appears on the invoice, Carrier (or All), Basis, Value, Fuel (yes or no) and Default (yes or no), with edit and delete at the end of the row.
Filters and actions
Fuel surcharge takes a carrier, a Percent, a From date and an optional To date. Adding a new rate closes off the previous open-ended one automatically, so a shipment date can never match two.
Surcharges takes a carrier or all carriers, a Code, a Label on invoice, a Basis and a Value, plus two switches: Attracts fuel surcharge and Apply to every shipment by default.
The basis decides how the value is read: Per Kg multiplies it by the chargeable weight, Flat per shipment charges it once, and % of freight takes it as a percentage of the freight.
The fuel switch is the one that most often explains a rebuilt invoice failing to match the carrier's: some charges carry their own fuel line and some do not. A surcharge code cannot be changed after the event, because it is how shipments already billed refer to the charge.
