What this screen is for
A rate card holds a carrier's prices. Each card belongs to one carrier and takes a name, a type of documents or non-documents, a weight rounding step (so that, for example, a half-kilo step bills 6.2 kg as 6.5), and the date it takes effect from.
The table lists each card with its carrier, type, effective period, and how many weight slabs across how many zones it holds. A card with no rates in it is flagged as empty and needing an import. Rates are loaded by importing them into the card, and can then be viewed slab by slab.
When to use it
Create a new card, dated from the day it applies, whenever a carrier issues a new tariff. Keeping the old card in place preserves the prices that applied to earlier shipments.
What you see on this screen
- Card — the rate card's name.
- Carrier — whose tariff it is.
- Type — Documents or Non-documents.
- Effective — the date it applies from, and the date it runs to where one is set.
- Rates — how many rates across how many zones the card holds, or the words Empty — import needed, which is the state a newly created card is in.
View rates opens the card as a matrix, weights down the side and zones across the top, which is the shape carriers publish in and therefore the only practical way to check an import by eye. A weight band marked per kg is a rate for each kilo rather than a total, and a blank cell means the carrier does not serve that lane.
Filters and actions
New rate card takes a carrier, a Name, a Type, a Round up to step — set to 0.5, a 6.2 kg shipment bills at 6.5 — and an Effective from date.
Import is how rates get into a card. Paste the card straight from the carrier's PDF or spreadsheet, tell it the weight at which per-kilo rates begin if the tariff has such a tail, and press Preview first: the preview reports how many rates across how many zones it understood, lists anything it could not read, and says how many existing rates the import will replace. Only then does Import write them.
