What this screen is for
A shift is a named working pattern. Each row shows the shift name and code with its colour, its start and end times, a marker when it runs past midnight, the break in minutes, the working days it covers, and how many people are on it both as a default and on the roster. Shifts can be active or inactive, and you can search the list.
Alongside adding a shift there is an option to assign shifts, which puts staff on a shift for a date range.
Why it matters
Shifts are what attendance is measured against. Late arrivals, half days and expected hours all depend on the shift a person was on for that day, so an inaccurate shift quietly distorts the attendance record.
What you see on this screen
- Shift — a coloured dot in the shift's own colour, the shift name, and its short code beside it.
- Timing — the start and end times. A shift that runs past midnight carries a +1 day marker, and the break in minutes is shown underneath.
- Working Days — the weekdays the shift covers, named individually, or "Every day" where all seven are included.
- Assigned — how many people have this shift as their default, with a roster count underneath where staff have been assigned to it for a date range.
- Status — Active or Inactive.
- Actions — edit and delete.
