Stock Locations

The positions inside a warehouse — racks, shelves, bins, pallets, floor space, fridges and freezers — each with a code, and a temperature band where cold storage applies.

What this screen is for

The positions inside a warehouse: racks, shelves, bins, pallets, floor space, fridges and freezers. Each belongs to a warehouse and carries a code, and cold storage can record the temperature band it holds, from ambient through cool to cold.

When to use it

Set these up when a warehouse is large enough that knowing an item is "in the warehouse" is not enough to find it, or when you store goods that have to be kept at a controlled temperature. Stock can then be filtered down to a location rather than only to a building.

What you see on this screen

Three counters open the screen: Total, Active and Inactive.

The table lists one row per location:

  • Code — its short reference, generated if you leave it blank. This is what goes on a label and what a picker reads.
  • Name — what the position is called, such as Rack A1.
  • Warehouse — which building it sits in.
  • Type — Rack, Shelf, Bin, Fridge, Freezer, Floor or Pallet, each with its own colour.
  • Location — where in the warehouse it is.
  • Temperature — the band it holds: Ambient, Cool, Cold or Frozen.
  • Status — Active or Inactive. An inactive location keeps its history but is not offered when putting stock away.
  • Actions — edit or delete.

The form takes the warehouse (required), the name, a code, the type, the temperature zone, the position details, a barcode and notes.

Filters and actions

A search box matches location names and codes, and a type filter narrows to one kind of position.

Status values

The Type says what kind of position it is: Rack, Shelf, Bin, Pallet, Floor for open floor space, and Fridge or Freezer for chilled storage.

The Temperature band says what it can hold: Ambient for room temperature, Cool for chilled, Cold for refrigerated and Frozen. Getting this right matters where stock has to be kept within a range — it is the record of what a position is actually fit to store.
