What this screen is for
Where the daily sales report shows what came in, this one sets expenses against it. For the period you choose it gives total revenue, total expense, the resulting profit or loss, the margin as a percentage and the average day. The best and worst days are called out with their revenue and expense figures, and the table below lists every day with its revenue, expense, profit or loss and margin.
When to use it
Use it when strong sales are not turning into profit and you want to see on which days the two diverge. Choose the period with the date range picker in the header.
What you see on this screen
Six figures head the report:
- Total Revenue — revenue credited across the period
- Total Expense — expenses debited across the same period
- Net Profit or Net Loss — revenue less expense
- Profit Margin — that result as a percentage of revenue, with Avg/Day profit beneath
- Best Day and Worst Day — the strongest and weakest days by result, each naming its date with that day's revenue and expense
Daily Breakdown lists one row per day:
- Date — the day
- Revenue — revenue for that day
- Expense — expense for that day
- Profit/Loss — revenue less expense for the day
- Margin — that day's result as a percentage of its revenue
The foot of the table totals the period. An Expense Breakdown follows with Category, Amount and % of Total, which is where a heavy day usually explains itself.
Filters and actions
The date range picker in the header is the only control, and reloads the report on change. A day with neither revenue nor expense does not appear.
