What this screen is for
A grid of items against price groups, where you set the price each group pays for each item. A blank cell is not an omission: it means that item falls back to the group's own computed price, so you only fill in the ones that need a figure of their own.
When to use it
Use it when setting tiered pricing up, and whenever a group's prices are revised. A whole column can be filled at once, for every item or for one category, which is both faster and more consistent than working down the list item by item — and easier to check afterwards.
What you see on this screen
A grid, with the item column frozen at the left so it stays in view as you scroll across the groups. Every heading sorts.
- Product — the item, with its name held in place as you scroll.
- Cost — what the item costs you. It is there so a price can be judged against it rather than set blind.
- Base — the item's base price, and the figure each group's rule is applied to.
- One column per price group — each headed with the group's name and, beneath it, the rule that group uses, so the discount is visible on the screen devoted to it. Each cell holds that group's price for that item; leaving it empty falls back to the rule.
Each group column also carries a one-click Apply, which fills the column using that group's rule.
Filters and actions
A Category filter narrows the rows. Where no price groups exist yet, the screen says so and sends you to create one first, since a matrix needs columns.
The bulk fill dialog takes a Price Group, an Apply To of all items or a single category, and a tick for overwrite cells that already have a saved price. Leaving that tick off is the safe choice: it fills the blanks and leaves any price you set by hand alone. The dialog states the sum it is about to apply before you confirm it.
A cell changed here is recorded in Rate Change History, which is the only screen that remembers what a price used to be.
