What this screen is for
A debit note is the purchase-side mirror of a credit note. When goods go back to a vendor, or a bill charged more than agreed, a debit note records the reduction in what you owe them.
Why not just edit the bill
The vendor's original document stays as it was issued; your correction is its own dated record. That is what keeps your payables and their receivables able to agree with each other.
